C the Unseen – Chemnitz is European Capital of Culture 2025!

This past weekend marked the beginning of a truly extraordinary year: the official opening of the European Capital of Culture 2025 took place, and we are still brimming with excitement and inspiration from the unforgettable festivities!

As a company rooted in this dynamic city, we couldn’t be prouder to be part of this journey. Chemnitz, together with Nova Gorica, has been honored with the title of European Capital of Culture – a remarkable recognition for our city, the surrounding region, and the people who make it so special.

What makes this even more meaningful is the sense of unity: 38 cities and municipalities from Central Saxony, the Zwickau region, and the Erzgebirge form the Capital of Culture Region, proudly carrying this title together with Chemnitz. This collaboration demonstrates the power of shared vision and community, a fitting tribute to the theme of democracy that underpins the entire year.

The opening weekend was nothing short of spectacular, filled with moments that will stay with us for a long time. Singing dinosaurs brought smiles to everyone’s faces. A breathtaking light show lit up the city in dazzling colors. The Philharmonic Orchestra performed atop the rooftops of Chemnitz. Thousands of happy faces reflected the joy of the moment. And, of course, the ceremonial opening by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was a highlight of the celebration.

The theme, “C the Unseen”, calls on us to uncover hidden treasures, embrace fresh perspectives, and celebrate the unique cultural fabric of our city and region. Looking ahead, we are especially excited about standout events like MakersUnited, KOSMOS, and Light our Vision – and we’re sure there are plenty of surprises waiting to be discovered throughout the year.

We wholeheartedly congratulate everyone involved in this phenomenal start. Here's to a year of creativity, connection, and innovation – a year that will leave a lasting impact on Chemnitz, the region, and all who visit.
